A Triple Blessing!

Over the last 3.5 years in particular, Angelique and I have endured a lot of heartache.  Our own journey has been extensive:  After 6 IVF attempts (3 fresh IVF cycles and 2 frozen embryo transfers), 7.5 total years of heartbreaking pregnancy losses and nearly $100,000 in cumulative medical expenses, we have finally realized our dreams of having a family of our own on our 6th and final IVF attempt using donor eggs.  Our last best chance yielded 3 little miracles – triplets – 2 girls and 1 boy – A Triple Blessing!

Unexplained Infertility is the most difficult catch-all category for couples to be thrown into because there are no certain answers.  Infertility is an emotional grind for a couple, and can be difficult to understand for someone on the outside looking in.  Most people just don’t know what to say to a couple struggling with this issue.  It wreaks havoc on marriages and creates unpredictable and unique triggers outside of the couple’s control.  The simple fact is that infertility (on the man and woman) is isolating, heartbreaking and expensive.

Most couples get pregnant naturally and within a reasonable amount of time trying (usually within 6 months).  Some have a minor issue like blocked fallopian tubes, and find success with minimal assistance (blocked tubes flushed and opened, Clomid, IUI, etc.).  Some are fortunate enough to pregnant with IVF on their first try.  Only a few facts are universal: every woman is different, and every couple’s journey is unique.

We started our journey to have a baby in 2007, about 6 months after getting married.  Our final IVF cycle using donor eggs resulted in our triplets! It was an absolute pleasure to see my wife believing and have hope again.  Each loss took a HUGE piece of us both.  We are grateful that our perseverance has been rewarded.  We are very much up to the challenges that lie ahead.  We’ve got huge bills as a result of our efforts, but it was totally worth it.

We worked with the Huntington Reproductive Center in Pasadena, CA.  Dr. Bradford Kolb is a great doctor and we would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a skilled, compassionate IVF doctor!  He took a genuine interest in our case and helped us find the best option given our unique journey.
